Lights...Drama...Action!

Now that the Valentine season is over, and the dates went well (well at least you would Hope), we're now looking at what would be a great second date movie. One film maker that comes highly recommended is Tyler Perry, author and producer of many plays, and movies, and television sitcoms. His best movie to date by far has been The Family That Preys, starring Sanaa Lathan, Robin Givens, Kathy Bates, Alfre Woodard, and many others.

The Family That Preys is a classic story of forbidden love with a modern twist. The Cartwrights are a strong family with a very successful construction company. Alice Pratt (played by Alfre Woodard) is the best friend of Charolotte Cartwright, the owner of Cartwright construction company. Alice has raised two beautiful daughters, one of which Charolotte decides to pay for her wedding. It is through the wedding that Alice's daughter and Charlotte's son, both of which are married, meet and start an affair. Throughout the movie, the viewer is kept on the edge of their seats to see what will happen next.By the end of the movie, all hell breaks lose, all the while you could hear a pin drop in the theater.

Tyler Perry is best known for his dramatic scenes and head turning twists in his movies and plays, and this movie is no exception. You are kept at the edge of your seat the entire movie to see what will transpire next. By the end, you're screaming, crying, and laughing along with the characters and you just don't want the movie to end.

This movie would be a great second date choice, as its dramatic scenes and climactic action will be a great mix of emotions for both guys and gals. This movie reaches out to both men and women, every race alike, and tells the story of love, hurt, and triumph. This movie comes highly recommended, not just as a personal fan of Tyler Perry, but also as an avid movie watcher, who loves drama and action all mixed into one.

Valentine's Day is for Suckers

Valentine's Day has become very over-rated. I must admit, I am a hopeless romantic myself, and I love to be whined and dined. But this year. I wasn't quite into all the "hooplah" that cupids day brings. So, me and my significant other stayed in, and while flipping through the channels, we stumbled upon a movie called "The Break Up," starring Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn.

The Break-Up is about a couple who argue about everything and agree on nothing besides the fact that they have fallen in love. Since Gary (played by Vince Vaughn) is more in love with his video games and the Chicago Cubs than his girlfriend, he fails to realize all the good things Brooke (played by Jennifer Aniston) does for him. Brooke ends up breaking off their relationship, and the couple has no choice but to still reside in the same apartment, even though they have ended their relationship. Each tries to make the other jealous--Brooke by bringing multiple dates to the house, and Gary turning their apartment into a Poker strip club.

By the end of the movie, after both of them are tired of playing games, Gary finally opens up to  Brooke, only to be shut down due to the fact that the damage was too far done. In the end, the couple went their separate ways, each achieving their own life-long goals.

This movie grabbed my attention, and I was glued to the television from beginning to end. And it was great to watch with my partner, as we both had the chance to evaluate the typical problems people in relationships go through and critique them from an outsiders point of view. I understood a little more of the inner-workings of a guy's mind, as he did of a woman's mind. All in all, what started as a casual flip through the channels ended up being a learning experience for me and my partner on a day when love should be cherished the most.

Seven Pounds

Will Smith is the epitome of sexy. Of course that's my personal opinion, but with a performance such as the one he puts on in Seven Pounds, there aren't many who wouldn't agree with me....well women at least.

Seven Pounds tells the story of a man on a journey to help seven strangers, in exchange for nothing but redemption for his own soul. Ben Thomas, played by Will Smith, is an IRS agent who is looking to collect money owed to the IRS, or so he says. In actually, Ben is putting his seven candidates (for lack of a better term) through rigorous tests of character to see if they deserve the great award he plans to give them.

Throughout the movie, Ben is very mysterious, and it is obvious to everyone that there is a secret in which Ben is trying so desperately to hide. When confronted with this secret, Ben faces the end of his road to redemption, and the end of this movie is sure to bring g even the toughest of men to tears.

The reason why Seven Pounds is such a great movie, besides the fact that Will Smith is in it. is the fact that each character portrayed has a very interesting story, especially the mysterious Ben Thomas. It also showcases the perfect love story that keeps you hanging on to the very last moment to see what will become of it.

Seven Pounds is an excellent date movie in which both guys and gals can appreciate.

An old classic sure to bring the tears!

No Valentine's Day could ever be complete without the very best love story of all time...The Notebook.

After months of probing my boyfriend to watch this soppy love story, he agreed...and it nearly brought him to tears (just don't tell him I told you that!)

The Notebook is a remarkable story about the innocence of youth and the power of love. Noah is a blue-collared sawmill worker with street smarts and charisma. Allie comes from a white-collared family who is completely against the thought of their daughter falling in love with a labor worker. Against her family's will, Allie falls head over heels in love with Noah and the two start a summer fling that they both wish will never end.
By the end of the summer, after countless break-ups and make-ups, Allie's parents are determined to separate the two, moving Allie away from Noah, forcing Allie to say goodbye to Noah for what seems to be the last time. Noah promises to write, and after not hearing from him for a year, Allie moves on with her life and fins someone new.

On an amazing twist of fate, Allie and Noah somehow cross paths and their love affairs rekindles, much to the disliking of Allie's parents and her new fiancee. With a fiancee and an old love, Allie must decided which road she wants to take, and ultimately she chooses her first love.

The two get married, have children, and are starting to grow old together, when they find out that Allie has Alzheimer's disease which affects her memory. Feeling desperate, Allie writes the couples remarkable journey in a notebook, instructing Noah to read to her when her illness takes over her memory and she can no longer remember what they've shared.

Every moment of this movie will keep you on edge of your seat, leaving you begging for what will happen next. Although guys tend to hate soppy love stories such as The Notebook, they can't help but shed a tear for this beautiful love story, as my significant other has shown.

No Date? No Worries!

The only day some women would rather be dead than dateless would be good 'ol Valentines Day. While all your friends with dates are out enjoying their night, you're sitting at home with a tub of Ben and Jerrys chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream damning Cupid for not shooting you this year.
Although, I admit, it does kind of bite not being in love by the time February 14th comes along, but hey...what about your girlfriends? The ones who are single just like you? Instead of you all spending money on separate tubs of Ben and Jerry's, how about you all get together, split the cost, and watch a fantastic movie about the power of women, fittingly called The Women.

Decked out with a phenomenal cast of the most prominent female actors such as Meg Ryan, Jada Pinkett-Smith and Eva Mendes, this remake of Greg Cukor's 1939 classic movie is the poster child of the power that women share when they are together.

Mary, played by Meg Ryan, is a married mother who has become complacent and let herself go. Her three best friends, one prominent businesswoman, one stay-at-home mother, and one lesbian, are shocked to find out that Mary's husband has been cheating on her with a Macy's perfume clerk. After Mary discovers her husband's affair, she files for divorce, and the journey to breaking free from her husband and finding herself begins, and of course her best friends are there to see her through the way.

This movie is absolutely perfect for a night in with a few of your very best friends and a tub of Ben and Jerry's chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream. Not only does the movie show the power of a woman, it shows the power that a group of women can have, and how much we need each other along the way.

Even Roger Ebert gives this movie three stars ladies, and he's a guy. So imagine how much you and your girlfriends will love it!

Get Taken Away By Taken

With Valentine's day quickly approaching and lovers are looking to plan out their romantic night, many will head to the movie theaters. Being a female with a strong love for romance and having a boyfriend who is a die-hard action movie fan, I've learned that movies like Taken, starring Liam Nelson and Famkee Janssen,(Also known as Jean from X-men), are a perfect fit for a perfect date night

Taken is a movie filled with tons of action complemented by a heroic love story of a father's quest to rescue his daughter from Albanian smugglers looking to sell her as a sex slave. In the beginning, Nelson's character Bryan Mills is shown as a CIA agent whom neglected his family in the name of his country. Now retired, Mills is looking to reconnect with his teenage daughter to heal their relationship, much to her mother's disliking.

Mills' daughter Kim has been invited to spend the summer in Paris with her best friend Amanda and their family. Although her mother agrees, Mills is very reluctant, citing his experience as a CIA agent as the source of his worries for his daugher traveling overseas. Filled with guilt by Kim and her mother, Mills reluctantly agrees, and the worst in fact does happen, leaving Mills to the fight of his life across seas to rescue his daughter.

The reason why I fell in love with this story is because it had just the right amount of action and romance to make a balanced date. Let's face it ladies, it's very rare to find a guy who will sit through a movie like The Notebook and be happy with you afterwords. On the other hand, if you give him a little action to sit through, the experience will be shared and exciting for both of you.
